One year later: Why Canada’s COVID-19 crisis is being called a ‘senicide’

March 8th 2021 marks one year since Canada’s first death from COVID-19, a senior in a long-term care facility in British Columbia. Since then 55 per cent of all deaths have been long-term care residents. It has been described as a senicide: the killing of the elderly or their abandonment to death.
