President Trump’s secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department recently delivered his farewell address. On Wednesday, Ben Carson thanked Trump for nominating him as the department head four years ago.
Both President Trump and I shared a new vision for @HUDgov, one which was one built on measuring success not by how many people we added on to government assistance, but how many people we were able to lift up, off government assistance and onto the path of self-sufficiency.

Carson touted many accomplishments achieved during his time working for the Trump administration, including providing housing for young adults aging out of foster care. He also noted the administration’s goal was to help individuals become self-sufficient rather than compel Americans to be dependent on the government.
“Freedom works better than regulation, self-sufficiency is superior to dependence and liberty is most achievable when it is derived of the people, by the people, for the people,” he stated.
Carson went onto say “only in the land of opportunity can a poor, inner city boy go on to become a brain surgeon, a candidate for president and then one day a cabinet secretary.”
