Senators returned to Capitol Hill following a Thanksgiving recess to talk coronavirus and economic relief. On Monday, members of the upper chamber met to discuss a stimulus package in hopes of reaching a deal by the end of the year.

Several items were proposed to be attached to a possible bill, including funding vaccine and testing developments as well as providing relief to small businesses.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell touted Moderna’s push to get their vaccine candidate approved by the FDA as new data shows it to be more than 94 percent effective.

“There’s no reason, none, why we should not deliver another major pandemic relief package to help the American people through what seems poised to be the last chapters of this battle,” stated the Kentucky Republican. “This morning, we got yet another major sign of hope.”

Several reports suggest senators from both sides of the aisle are meeting unofficially amid division between Democrats and Republicans. These senators hope to hash out a stimulus package that can be presented to the upper chamber.
